This one is for the person who doesn't want to explain their jewelry. The one who reaches for the piece that sparks a conversation without trying to, that looks understated from across the room and then completely different the moment the light hits it just right. If that's you, keep reading.
The center stone is an Ethiopian black opal, and it's the kind of stone that rewards the people who actually pay attention. In shade it reads dark and almost mysterious. Then you move and there it is, a deep red fire moving through the stone, and every now and then a flash of green that appears just long enough to make someone do a double take. No two moments with this stone look exactly the same.
The pendant is handmade by me, start to finish. The outer hoop is made from a sterling silver sparkle wire, which has a subtle texture that catches light all the way around the circle and gives the whole piece a little extra dimension without competing with the stone. Inside the hoop the opal sits in a small bezel with a scalloped crown edge that feels refined without being fussy. A small sterling silver ball sits just above the stone where the hoop meets the bail, one of those quiet little details that makes the whole design feel intentional. The chain in the photos is not included; this listing is for the pendant only.
This is part of my Studio Staples Collection, item may be recreated, using the same handcrafted materials and care but keeping items budget friendly. Items in this collection are aimed to be accessible without cutting any corners in the process.
A little about Ethiopian black opal: Black opal is considered one of the more powerful stones in metaphysical traditions. It's associated with transformation, deep emotional healing, and helping to surface what's been buried so it can actually move through you. Where lighter opals carry a more playful energy, black opal tends to work on a quieter, deeper level. The red fire in this particular stone connects to passion, vitality, and grounding. It's also long been considered a stone of protection, especially during periods of change. Whether the metaphysical side of things speaks to you or not, there is something genuinely magnetic about a stone that holds this much depth.
Caring for your pendant: Sterling silver develops a natural patina over time with wear and air exposure. That's completely normal and part of the character of handmade silver, but if you prefer it bright the polishing cloth included with your order will bring it right back. Store your pendant in the included velvet pouch when you're not wearing it to slow the process down. Ethiopian opals are natural solid stones but can still be sensitive to harsh chemicals and extreme temperature changes. Keep it away from perfume, lotion, and cleaning products, and give it a gentle wipe with a soft cloth when it needs a refresh. Skip the pool and shower while wearing it.
